Instant Soups: Cream of Mushroom Creamy Red Bell Pepper Potato Potato Leek |
Using dried vegetable powders is easy and sneaky! You may already use onion and/or garlic powder in your cooking so this isn't much different, except you've done the drying yourself. You can add 1/4 teaspoons of several different dried veggies into a soup, stew or casserole and no one will be the wiser.
Dried vegetable powers add richness and flavor to dishes and amp up the nutritional values a little here and a little there. Think of them as seasonings, we already use onion and garlic powder to dishes when called for or if we are out of fresh produce, why not other vegetables as well. Celery salt is called for in recipes so now add half the amount called for using celery powder and help reduce the amount of sodium (salt) in your meals without sacrificing flavor. Often we don't like the texture of a vegetable so we say we don't like ____! When you add the powder into your recipe the icky texture thing is gone and so is the burst of flavor when you bite into a chunk of something. Flavors meld and the dish as a whole is richer for it. |
Making soup using dried veggies, whether they are chunks or powdered, is a staple in camping and backpacking excursions.
Instant cups of soup are great for a quick snack or light meal...
Here are several Instant Cup of Soups, made with powdered vegetables they are ready to eat in minutes. Make up several of these at one time. I line up labeled snack size zip style bags and add each ingredient to each of the bags and when done tuck them into - a drawer in you office desk, a backpack for a weekend get-away, the box you're send off to a friend or loved one far away. Note the vegetable servings in these soups!
