Nectarine Compote Mirepoix Balsamic & Honey Figs Sausage Gravy Citrus Zest |
A little of this or a little of that.I use the Mirepoix and Citrus Zest almost weekly but the other recipes are used often enough that I usually have them made up and stored in the freezer. Well except for the Nectarine Compote which makes up a small enough batch it gets eaten rather quickly and nectarines are only in season for a short time.

Grains & Seeds Blend
|
A great blend of rolled grains and seeds that add flavor, nutrition and fantastic texture to yeast breads, quick breads and muffins. I use a wide range of things in this blend, but you can use what you have on hand and/or what you can find.

This french cuisine staple goes together easily and then freezes beautifully so that is ready for your dishes as you prepare them, perhaps even under the pressure of the week night. As the ingredients transform from four individual vegetables and the light flavor of olive oil into a magical concoction, the smell blends into it very own aroma that is a quite sophisticated.

Balsamic & Honey Roasted Figs |
Serves 8
|
My fig tree is purposefully keep somewhat small. I still have more figs than I know what to do with. This recipe was inspired by a salad that had roasted figs in it. It was a dish I ordered for brunch one Sunday at The Coronet restaurant on Cushing St. in Tucson. These savory roasted figs have become a favorite snack, as well as, an ingredients for salads and meats.

Citrus Zest |
I live in Arizona and pretty much any citrus except lime trees do very well here, and I have a couple of friends that have limes. I have lemon, tangerine, tangelo and blood orange trees. I use a lot of zest and need a couple of cups of lemon and orange zest for the years baking and about one half a cup of grapefruit and lime. My preference is to use frozen zest over dried, I've tried both.
