Welcome to Cathy's Kitchen
I've set up this site to make it easy for my extended family and myself to access recipes. If you have found this site and you are not family I hope you find some good ideas and recipes!

I love to cook and bake even more than I like to eat! But it is important to love what you eat and to serve friends and loved ones food that you can be proud of. Knowing what goes into our food has become a national, no, global passion. This desire for healthy and/or good quality food, for me, has its roots in the late Sixties and into the Seventies. Whole wheat bread has morphed into whole grain everything and Celiac Disease was the monster under the bed that no one believed was there. Low fat, no fat, healthy fat...animal protein or plant based protein...white sugar versus honey versus artificial sweeteners...There are so many ideas and preferences it makes the head swim!
- Here are some recipes and food preparation techniques that I use.
- Recipes are listed on the Recipes page with specific headings and sub-headings to the side.
- Recipes and thoughts have been put at the top of each category as I add them.
- To look for something in a proper alphabetical order check out the Table of Contents under the Home heading and it will take you to the page the recipes is on. From there, find the information in the little box to the left side and scroll to find what you are looking for.
- The Tips & Techniques and That's Good to Know headers, and their drop-downs contain interesting and helpful information.
- Sites and cookbooks that I use are in drop-downs under About.
- If you have a question or can't find something call me or message me. There is a message box at the bottom of the page About.
So, I get asked "Are you a baker or a cook?" I think I am both! What I'm not , is a chef. My training comes from real life and several years at the Southern AZ Girl Scout summer camp Camp Whispering Pines as head cook, which was actually surreal, not real, life.
Some people are more interested in cooking and are intimidated by baking and others find it true the other way around. My maternal Grandmother owned and operated restaurants in Iowa, at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and here in Tucson for many years and if you can't make pie, as well as hearty meals, folks won't stop by and eat! So, if you do one better than the other and you want to branch out, look for a recipe that is simple, something you will like and give it a try. If you have questions and you don't see answers contact me and I will see what I can do to help out. Oh, and don't forget that practice makes perfect but...
